Dementia together magazine readership survey 2023

What you thought of our first co-produced issue of Dementia together magazine.

Thank you to the nearly 600 readers who completed the survey about our August/September magazine. This special issue was co-produced with a panel of people affected by dementia

Almost all (96%) of respondents rated the issue as ‘excellent’ or ‘good’.

This comprised 53% who said it was ‘excellent’ and 43% ‘good’, while the other 4% thought it ‘average’ (no respondents rated it as ‘poor’ or ‘very poor’).

Magazine special issue guest panel members

The guest panel who co-produced our special issue with us.

The survey asked specifically about the special August/September issue, but 90% had also read previous magazines too.

More respondents than before said this issue made them feel that others understood what they’re going through – 84%, up 18% on our 2022 survey.

There were similar increases in people saying the magazine made them feel that support is available (93%, up 15%), connected to the Society (85%, up 11%) and better informed about dementia (90%, up 9%).

You particularly enjoyed articles that were the direct result of the guest panel’s new ideas.

The articles with the most positive feedback were ‘How to talk to me’ and ‘Latest innovations’.

Other popular articles included ‘Creative showcase’, ‘Benefits: what you need to know’, ‘Still out there’ and ‘The beauty of flies’.

Gerry King’s illustrations, featured in ‘How to talk to me’, got a special mention, with one respondent saying they were, ‘Spot on!’

The survey results are a ringing endorsement of our guest panel’s work.

Involving people in co-production clearly meant that the magazine was even better and more effective for our readers, and 96% of respondents said they’d like to read another special issue in future.

We’ll continue to use the findings to improve the magazine, and we’ll plan further ways to involve people too – watch this space!
