Dementia Action Week is when tens of thousands of people come together to make a difference to the lives of people affected by dementia. This year, we will be moving the date.

The date for Dementia Action Week 2020 is changing

Following Government advice about coronavirus (COVID-19), we have taken the difficult but necessary decision to postpone Dementia Action Week 2020.

This is an extremely challenging time for so many of us and the health and safety of people affected by dementia, our employees and volunteers is our number one priority.

What is the new date for Dementia Action Week?

We will be moving this important date in our calendar from May to later in the year. Once we have a new date planned, we will update this page, so please check back for updates.

In the meantime, any Dementia Action Week activities and events planned for May should be cancelled or postponed until we have a new date in place.

Alzheimer’s Society is here to support anyone affected by dementia through this difficult time. If you need help or advice, please call our Dementia Connect support line on 0333 150 3456 (open every day).

What can I do now to support people affected by dementia?

You can still help us be there for people with dementia who are at high risk of isolation and distress during this crisis.

Any money you can give will fund our Dementia Connect support line, so people affected by dementia can get the advice and support they desperately need during this difficult time.

Please help us support people affected by dementia

Here are some answers to questions you may have about Dementia Action Week 2020

What is Dementia Action Week?

Every year, tens of thousands of people come together for Dementia Action Week and take action to help improve the lives of people affected by dementia.

When is Dementia Action Week being postponed to?

We are looking at options for later in the year – around autumn 2020. When we have this confirmed, we will post this on our website, so please check back for updates.

Why are we postponing Dementia Action Week activities and events?

Dementia Action Week mobilises thousands of individuals, workplaces, schools and communities to put on events and take action to help reduce the social isolation experienced by so many people living with dementia.

With the Government requirements for social distancing, and prolonged self-isolation for some (including those over the age of 70 and with underlying health conditions), we had no alternative but to postpone.

Will I still get my materials I ordered?

As the week is being postponed, we will not be sending out any printed materials until a new date has been arranged. We will be in touch with you nearer the time so you can place new orders for materials.

Will the theme of the Week still be the same?

Yes, the theme of the Week will remain A Little Does A Lot - encouraging people to do social activities with friends and family living with dementia.

When we relaunch in the autumn, we hope COVID-19 will have passed and it will be the right time to encourage everyone to spend more time with friends and relatives living with dementia to banish the social isolation experienced by so many with the condition.

How will Alzheimer’s Society be supporting people affected by dementia during the pandemic?

We are here to support anyone affected by dementia through this difficult time. If you need advice, please call our Dementia Connect support line on 0333 150 3456 (open every day). Or, our online community, Talking Point, is available if you would like to chat online to people in a similar situation.
