Alzheimer's Society and the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) have announced a new partnership.

Dementia is one of the UK’s biggest killers. Over 900,000 people in the UK are living with dementia - this figure is set to hit 1 million by 2025. This means issues around capacity are increasingly important and more relevant than ever.

At Alzheimer's Society we are excited to collaborate with the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) to help those living with dementia in addressing the difficulties that come with engaging the legal system.

Adam Buckles, Head of Legacies, said:

"As the UK’s leading dementia charity, we give help to people living with dementia today, and hope for the future by campaigning and funding ground-breaking research that will change the landscape of dementia.

We’re excited to be partnering with STEP to share our unparalleled knowledge and experience of the challenges faced by people living with dementia. Together, we can find solutions and shape a better future for people when it comes to navigating the legal system and getting their legal affairs in order.

By focusing on metal capacity in their 2023-2026 strategy, STEP aims to move government thinking forward. Working in partnership with Alzheimer’s Society, STEP plans to highlight the importance of issues around capacity in all aspects of legal work, alongside improving mental incapacity planning among its membership.

Speaking about the partnership, STEP’s Chief Executive, Mark Walley, said:

STEP is most grateful to the Alzheimer’s Society for its recognition of the Society and its membership as capable and credible partners with which to ally in work to impact change for the better.

With dementia being recognised as one of the most significant health crises of the 21st century, never has expertise and thought leadership been of greater value to compel transformation, progress understanding and raise awareness. We are excited to forge forward.
