We are committed to improving our practices to combat slavery and human trafficking.
The Alzheimer’s Society is the UK’s leading care and research charity for people with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia across England, Wales and Northern Ireland. We have over 2,552 employees, over 10,500 volunteers and with annual income of £97.9 million.
We provide services that deliver support and advice for people with dementia and their carers, with nearly 3000 services across three nations, helping over 100,000 people. We also invest in Research and Development, supporting 50 projects in 2015/16 studying the cause, care, cure and prevention of all forms of dementia. Further to this we also campaign for the rights of people with dementia to be recognised so that they can live the life they want.
Our policies on slavery and human trafficking
We are committed to ensuring that there is no modern slavery or human trafficking in our supply chains or in any part of our business and in so far as is possible requiring our suppliers hold a similar ethos.
The Alzheimer’s Society guidance on Modern Slavery is to:
- Comply with legislation and regulatory requirements
- Make suppliers and service providers aware that we promote the requirements of the legislation
- Consider modern slavery factors when making procurement decisions
- Develop awareness of modern slavery issues
- Inform staff of the Society’s Modern Slavery Act Policy and request they read and understand the new requirements
- Aim to include modern slavery conditions or criteria in specification and tender documents wherever possible
- Encourage suppliers and contractors to take their own action and understand their obligations to the new requirements.
This statement is made pursuant to section 54 (1) of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and constitutes slavery and human trafficking statement for the financial year ending 31st March 2017.
