The Research Network

7. How to join the Research Network

The Research Network volunteer role is open only to people with dementia, carers and former carers. No prior scientific knowledge or research experience is required.

To join the Research Network, please download our Research Network application form . Recruitment to this role is always open and once submitted you will be contacted by a member of the Research and Development Directorate within 2 weeks. If eligible, you will then have an induction meeting with an Area Coordinator, who is an experienced Research Network volunteer. The main purpose of the induction meeting is to ensure that you understand the Research Network role and the different ways you could be involved.

All Research Network volunteers are issued with a handbook and provided training opportunities to give them the skills they need to take part. The role can be undertaken between two people.

We ask our Research Network volunteers to review at least one batch of lay applications annually. All additional activities and opportunities are optional. The role of a Research Network volunteer can be undertaken from home. We realise that circumstances change, and that it can be difficult to commit when the future is uncertain, so volunteers can take a break at any time.
