Experience the beauty of Ullswater lake surrounded by towering fells and the powerful Aira Force waterfall. Trek for loved ones, and raise money so together we can find a cure.

The 26 mile route will start and finish at our event hub in Dalemain Mansion & Historic Gardens, CA11 0HB. 

The 13 mile route starts at Patterdale Primary School, Patterdale, Penrith, CA11 0NL, but you can park at the event hub and we will transfer your to the start line. The route ends at Dalemain Mansion.

The 26 mile route will start at 7.30am, and the 13 mile route will start at 10.30am.

You'll trek around the tranquil lake, nestled amongst rolling hills, as you walk through woodland, fields and farmland. You'll take in stunning views, including Helvellyn, which is England’s third highest mountain.

How fit do I need to be?

The route is designed to be challenging but is achievable for most people provided you train well in advance. When you sign up we’ll email you a training guide to help you prepare.

What will the terrain be like?

We trek on varied and undulating terrain. Some sections may be muddy if it has rained so wearing suitable footwear is essential.

How will I find my way along the route?

The route will be well-marked with brightly coloured marker arrows and there will be extra marshals at any sections that are less straightforward. On the day, you will be given contact details for the support team in case you do lose your way.

How long will it take?

This event is not a race; everyone should be able to walk at a comfortable pace. In order for the event to be managed safely, there will be a cut-off time.

The 26 miles should take approximately 9-10 hours but can take some walkers up to 12 hours.

Is there an age limit?

The minimum age limit for the Trek26 series is 14. All participants must be at least 14 on event day.  

How do I claim my trekking top and when will I receive it?

As a huge thank you for your fundraising, we send out a trekking top to everyone who has hit their target at least a month before the event. You don't need to get in touch to claim yours - as long as you have hit your target on your fundraising page or paid in cash donations to us, we'll send out your top automatically.

What if the weather is bad?

We carry on! Do make sure you check the kit list and come prepared for all types of weather.

What will I need to carry? 

You will need to be able to carry all essential kit required for the challenge e.g waterproofs, layers, water, sun cream, snacks. Check the full kit list to be sure of everything you will need.

Make sure you have trained with your backpack, carrying everything you need, so that you are used to trekking with your pack at full weight. 

What are the toilet facilities?

There will be facilities at the event hub (where you start and finish) and most planned rest-stops along the route.

Are there rest-stops along the way?

There will be manned rest stops along the route – usually one in the morning, one in the afternoon, plus a lunch stop. We’ll be on hand to provide help and plenty of encouragement and there will be first aid support, as well as toilets.

What will I be eating?

Breakfast, lunch and lots of snacks are provided as well as water and tea and coffee at the start/finish and lunch stop.

Where do we meet?

The start for the 26 mile route is located at Dalemain Mansion & Historic Gardens, CA11 0HB. This is also the finish point as the route is circular. The 13 mile route starts elsewhere, but you can park by the main hub and we will transfer your to the start line. 

Can a friend who isn’t signed up walk with me?

No, we’re afraid not, everyone taking part needs to be fully registered and fundraising to beat dementia.

Can I bring my dog?

No. We cannot be responsible for their welfare and landowners often ask us not to bring dogs onto their lands, which we must respect.  

Can I run?

No, we’re afraid not.
