Today Alzheimer's Society are supporting over £50 million of world leading dementia research to understand the causes of dementia, advance diagnosis, improve care, and search for a cure.

Alzheimer’s Society is one of the UK’s biggest charitable funders of dementia research – funding over £120 million of dementia research since 1989.

With the generous help of our supporters, we can deliver impactful research of highest quality into Alzheimer’s disease and other rarer forms of dementia. We support researchers by investing in individual grants, as well as delivering  pioneering research initiatives that aim to overcome the greatest challenges in dementia. 

Our research portfolio

Every year we fund research of highest quality and importance to make real difference to people affected by dementia. Our funded research will bring breakthroughs in how we understand the causes of dementia, develop effective treatments, improve care and ultimately find a cure for dementia. 

Pioneering research initiatives

We support pioneering initiatives which will forever change the dementia landscape in the UK.  

Currently we are investing in a number of pioneering initiatives, aiming to solve pressing issues that create barriers to better diagnosis, research opportunities, and care for people affected by dementia.  

Dementia Research Nurses

Alzheimer's Society has invested £3 million to set up a national team of dedicated Dementia Research Nurses to revolutionise the dementia clinical research landscape in the UK. They're here to give everyone affected by dementia the opportunity to take part in research.
