Course outline: Improving the customer experience for people with dementia
- Learn about the prevalence, signs, impact and experience of dementia and understand how staff in housing services can best support people living with dementia in their roles.
- Become aware of the central role that their home and immediate community play in enabling a person to adjust to life with dementia.
- Learn about perceptual distortions that may occur in dementia and how this can be minimized by changes to the environment.
- Become aware of cultural diversity, equality and equity issues and how they may impact people living with dementia.
- Understand intersectionality in family arrangements and the local community.

- This course uses stories and examples to show why person-centred care is important.
- Explore how making judgements and unconscious bias can be unhelpful in dementia care and how understanding differences can better support people with dementia.
