The Dementia Support Line is now available via SignVideo. This is a live, free to use translation service available in British Sign Language (BSL) and Irish Sign Language.

By clicking on the call button, Deaf BSL users will be connected to a BSL interpreter who will relay the call to one of our Alzheimer's Society team.

The SignVideo service provides easy access to a BSL interpreter, so you can talk to a Dementia Advisor via your phone, tablet or laptop.

Opening times: available Monday to Wednesday: 9am – 8pm, Thursday and Friday: 9am – 5pm, Saturday and Sunday: 10am – 4pm.

Here are two ways you can use SignVideo: 

  • SignVideo Web: Click on the button on the page to call the service you want to reach. A SignVideo interpreter will appear on your screen to interpret your conversation.
  • SignVideo App: Download the SignVideo app. Please see www.signvideo.co.uk/download for more information. When you open the app, you will see the SignDirectory. Scroll through the SignDirectory to find the service you want to call. Click on the button for your chosen service and a SignVideo interpreter will appear on your screen to interpret your conversation.

What do I need?

To use SignVideo, you will need three things as minimum requirements: 

  • Device/App: They can be the following:
    • Windows PC app
    • Apple Mac app
    • iOS app
    • Android app
    • SignVideo Web
  • Webcam: plug-in or built-in. 
     
  • Good internet connection: For the best experience with SignVideo, we advise having a minimum 2mbps upload and download internet speed. Your internet connection can be any of the following:
    • 4G or 5G mobile network
    • Plugged in broadband/ethernet
    • WiFi

With these three requirements met, you will be able to connect to our BSL interpreters easily and in an instant!

We can arrange a language translation service to help you get the support you need if you live in the UK.

To contact us in languages other than English, call us and say the English word for the language you would like to use. An interpreter will usually call you back within 5 minutes.
