My wife who is a retired RMN as am I, we both worked in wards for people newly diagnosed with a form of dementia her last job was in this role in Bath, she started showing signs 3 or 4 years ago but was formally diagnosed in 2025! She was well respected into her role. She has been prescribed Memantine which had had a good effect. She has periods of low mood when she realises that she is unable to do the things she could before. This is distressing to both of us!

My wife was diagnosed in November 2020, a late diagnosis due to Covid restrictions, which limited the support we could have had. I cared for her at home until she passed away in May 2023. Times got hard, watching someone you love disappear is difficult and frustrating but I vowed on our wedding day to care for her always sing I never stopped loving her.
Since she’s gone my memories have been mixed, the good times we shared, and other not so good memories. I miss her every day but am glad that she’s not at peace
I now do voluntary work for our local Alzheimer’s group, passing on the knowledge I gained and giving help where I can. I know in my heart my wife would like that.

I am supporting for my late wife Diana.
She was discharged from hospital with a diagnosis of lewy body dementia and a prognosis of 2 to 3 months. I gave up work to become her principal carer at home with 3 half hour care agency visits a day. She survived for 2 years and four months, passing 2 years ago this April. I don't ever want anyone else to have to witness the decline of a loved one caused by this evil affliction. In my heart I really do hope that as time progresses you are able to successfully rid society of this awful disease.

My younger Brother, BRIAN, led a varied and active life serving in the British Army and afterwards managing the refrigeration plant at a large chilled food company before moving on to work for Guide Dogs for the Blind. He enjoyed gardening, loved his wife and family and liked to organise family get-togethers for the wider family. Having through cancer episodes he,sadly, was diagnosed with dementia and Alzheimer's and quite quickly reached a stage of not recognising people he had loved so much in earlier times. We will always remember him and his support over the years. Born in January 1945 he was the middle one of five of us. We all respected his experience and caring attitude toward our younger generation members of our family.

My wife passed away on 24th November 2025 4 months short of our 60th wedding anniversary .
As well as my wife she was my rock
She was a mum ,grandma and great grandma
Although her final years were very difficult, loss of communication and mobility, she still had a sense that humour
She is seriously missed and has let a big hole in my life
I fully support Altziemers and encourage everyone to do so

My mum was incredible she kept me under the most difficult circumstances and loved me and our love lasted a lifetime. She became affected by Altzheimers at 57 and we said goodbye for 10 years . I now live to give her a legacy and my 4 children and my 2 grandchildren live on as a living tribute to her . Celebrating my precious mum and missing her every day x

I took care of my husband Raul with dementia at home for about 2yrs , then it got very difficult n couldn’t manage him. He would leave the house and thankful he would walk to our daughters home n sit outside till she got home, while I was crazy looking for him. Very scary. Then aggressiveness started n had to place him in a nursing home. Nit such a great place. I was 40yrs with him n loved him n still think of him a lot. I visit every day for three yrs and I saw the decline alit, which hurt me so much that I had to leave him there. He suffered so much such a gentle man .
Years went by and the night came he was leaving n rest without any pain, I stayed till then end n couldn’t help him, but just tell him I was there n I held his hand with such pain in my heart.May 23rd. will be 2 years n the pain just comes out. I known he’s resting but I miss him so much ❤️🙏

My husband went into a Nursing Home in November 2025.
What a shock to both of us. We've been together since 1968..
And we hate being apart and still trying to come to terms with it. My husband can't understand why he can't come home. I visit him every other day. I never in my wildest dreams thought this would happen to us. Life really is a bitch sometimes. Iove and miss him so much.

In January 2025 my beautiful Mum lost her battle with Alzheimer’s. It was a difficult, emotional journey we all went on.
My Mum was a Wife, Grandma and Great Grandma and a beautiful lady. She may not have known our names anymore or who we were but I know she loved us all. That lovely smile and cheeky sense of humour never left her and she always had a little song for us.
We all have wonderful memories which we hold close to us.
My Mum was lucky, she had the best care and support during her battle with this cruel disease.
Always loved, always remembered ❤️
