Funding outcome

Our Pre-Doctoral Clinical Bursary offers the ideal opportunity for clinical staff to get a taste of research, gather preliminary data and decide whether they would like to pursue a PhD in dementia research.

Once you have finished this project, we expect that you will be in a competitive position for a doctoral level research fellowship.

Award

Applicants can apply for up to £30,000 to cover a reasonable salary and research costs.

Funding is available for a period of up to six months part-time.

See the applicant guidance for more details. All costs must be justified.

Eligibility

This scheme is open to clinicians and other healthcare professionals working in the UK who would like to explore a career in dementia research.

Applicants should not have registered for, or completed a PhD in a relevant subject area or have registered for an MPhil with the expectation that it would progress to a PhD .

Applicants are expected to maintain and develop their professional practice-based skills and continue clinical practice on a part-time basis throughout the grant.

Applications must be developed with a supervisor within the same institution and included as co-applicant. Supervisors must hold an independent research position within the host institution for the duration of the grant and must provide the facilities and support required.

Remit

Alzheimer’s Society funds cutting-edge research into dementia. Applications are accepted for research projects addressing key unanswered questions within the dementia field.

Applicants should consider how their project can contribute to Alzheimer’s Society’s strategy and research mission.

Applicants must explain how their project contributes to the dementia field within these themes as alignment to our mission is incorporated into our scoring system at review.
