Choosing a care home for a person with dementia

Our booklet will help if you're caring for or supporting someone with dementia and are looking to choose the right care home. This free resource also has tips for moving into a care home.

A person with dementia will need more care and support as their condition progresses.

There may come a time when they will need to move into a care home. This could be because a care home may be more able to provide the care that a person needs, or because a change in personal circumstances makes it difficult for them to stay in their own home.

How the booklet can help

Choosing the right care home can feel daunting, but this booklet will help. It has been written for a carer or family member who is looking for a care home on behalf of a person with dementia.

However, it may also be useful for someone with dementia who wants to plan ahead and find the right care home for when they need it. It explains the process you will need to go through, and includes checklists of things to consider. It also has tips for moving in and how to handle other issues that may arise.
