I’m supporting Alzheimer’s for my mother in law who was diagnosed 18months ago. The recent struggles we’ve been facing as a family have been challenging, frustrating and upsetting but we still manage to have some smiles and laughter on the good days. We’re hoping for many more good days but realise this will inevitably decline over time.
I’m cycling the London to Brighton challenge to show my support for a great charity and hoping one day a cure will be available for this cruel disease.

Last year both my Nan and Grandad were diagnosed with dementia on the same day no less. The past year has been unbelievably difficult and full of change for my family. I knew watching them both deteriorate and change would be difficult but what I didn’t expect was how hard it would be to watch my family caring for them suffer so much. My dad has been amazing, and I know he’d do it all again in a heartbeat, they’re his parents, but the stress and worry has been so tough on him. Supporting Alzheimer’s Society isn’t just about helping the people diagnosed with it but it’s about helping and supporting their carers and loved ones too. All we can hope for now is kindness and care for my Nan and Grandad in what are their last months/years, to keep them calm and to make sure they know they’re loved and safe. I wish that same love and support for my dad, step mum, auntie and uncle who have completely changed their lives to ensure my Nan and Grandad are cared for. It’s not much, but I’ll run a half marathon for them all time and time again if it helps even a smidge.

I am running the GNR this year in memory of my grandmother Edna who was 100 years old when she died, I was there with her, which was a privilege to care for her in her final hours. She was diagnosed with dementia and for safety reasons for her, needed to be cared for in a care home. Even though she was a very grand age when she died, it was very hard at times to see her getting frustrated, angry and aggressive when this was not her, other times she was fine and enjoyed seeing her little great granddaughter Zara. The information and support for families is so imperative to help support them and your loved one. The website and support line was very helpful, gave me advice how to communicate properly not to cause upset for her, different dementia friendly activities, music and lots of other helpful information. Without funding these professionals, research and helplines/websites couldn't exist, that's why I would like to raise money for them.

My grandmother was the kindest and caring human and to be able to raise some awareness and money for this charity means a lot to me.

I’m running for my sister Angie my father in law Neil and uncle Matt . All very much loved life and are greatly missed . Angie got early onset dementia and was eventually in a care home she died during Covid and I still miss her sorely. She was full of fun and a great laugh! Neil and Matt were very clever kind people and to see their personalities disappear was very hard to take . I hope this race and other fundraisers will eventually mean dementia is a thing of the past

Running for my lovely Dad who passed away in August 2022. Watching dementia take away his independence and his recognition of family was heartbreaking. Alzheimer's Society can hopefully support others with the diagnosis and their families who have to watch their loved one slowly disappear.

My dad was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s around 3 years ago and we gradually started to lose him as he had always been. Then, very suddenly, we lost him 2 weeks ago . I’m running for dad and to raise funds to support research so that other families can be helped in future

I am running the half marathon on behalf of my Nanny Barb , she sadly passed away to Dementia and also having breast cancer. It was a very difficult time, I am doing this run in honour of my Nanny Barb.
