Ten runners. One mission. To keep dementia on the Run.

We're calling on runners to join the AJ Bell Great Run Series and help sustain life-changing support for people affected by dementia, while investing in vital, groundbreaking research.

To mark the launch, we've created the Dementia Run Club - a unique team of ten people from across the UK, each with a personal or professional connection to dementia, including a person living with the condition, a carer and a leading dementia researcher.

Shannon's Story: 'Joining Dementia Run Club has intensified my passion to bring an end to this devastating condition.'

Shannon, 27, from Essex, is training to take on the AJ Bell Great North Run in honour of her nan, Babs, who was diagnosed with dementia in 2023 and still cared for by her husband of 65 years, Herby.

Shannon only started running in 2024, to set herself a new challenge, but has since completed a half marathon and raised money to support the 'brilliant work' done by Alzheimer’s Society.

Shannon, says: 'My Nan was the life and soul of the party, she’s an incredible woman, but dementia has changed everything. Watching her fade has been incredibly tough for the whole family.

'It took us two years to get a diagnosis, and now she’s cared for at home by my Pops, Herby. The truly sad thing is that Nan no longer recognises Herby, her husband of 65 years.

I started running as a challenge to push myself and to raise money for Alzheimer’s Society to support the brilliant work they do for people affected by dementia. Until last year, I’d never ran before and now I’ve completed a half-marathon and raised over £2,000 for Alzheimer's Society and I have no plans to stop there.

'Joining their Dementia Run Club has intensified my passion to bring an end to this devastating condition and while Nan can’t be at the race in person, I know wherever she is she’ll be the loudest voice cheering me on.'
