History of the Research Network

Alzheimer's Society has pioneered the involvement of people affected by dementia in research since it set up the Research Network in 1999.

Alistair Burns, National Clinical Director for Dementia, England has commented:

'The advent of the Research Network was a major step forward in dementia research'

To mark the 15th anniversary of the Research Network, two of its original members, Shirley Nurock and Barbara Woodward-Carlton, have been looking back at its history and achievements.

They've interviewed many people who have been involved in or worked with the Research Network over the years, including Alzheimer's Society staff, the research community and our dedicated research volunteers.

Our booklet gives an overview of the Network's successes and demonstrates the huge impact it has had on dementia research, both research funded by Alzheimer's Society and by other organisations.

 An extended history

Barbara and Shirley have also written an 'Extended history of the Research Network' report to bring together all the valuable material that their research has uncovered.
