I’m running the London Marathon for Alzheimer’s UK in memory of my granny.
In 2013, my family and I didn’t just lose a Grandmother, a mum, or an auntie we lost the person everyone looked up to. She was the one we could always lean on, no matter what. She had the biggest heart and was always there whenever anyone needed her.
I’d even like to think I was her favourite. ☺️
Watching Alzheimer’s slowly take away the incredible woman we knew and loved was heartbreaking. At just 13 years old, I experienced a loss that changed my life forever. Although she’s no longer with us, the love, memories, and lessons she gave us will stay with me for the rest of my life.
I’m running this marathon in her memory and for every family who has experienced the heartbreak of Alzheimer’s. Every mile I run is for her and for those still fighting this cruel disease. By raising money for Alzheimer’s UK, I hope to help fund vital research, support families, and bring us one step closer to a world where no one has to go through what so many families, including mine, have experienced.

I'm taking on this challenge in memory of my nan. I cared for here for 2 years she suffered from dementia. Ive also cared for many clients with dementia. I've seen how dementia strips a person of they're own identity and how it affects other family members. It was a privlidge to care for my nan, I also found her when she'd passed away. I've seen how quickly dementia takes over in younger people because they're brains are more active it develops quicker. I'm also doing it to raise awareness.

I’m doing the trek26 in Norfolk to raise money for Alzheimer’s society. They have been so supporting since my lovely mum was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and mixed dementia. I know so many friends who have loved ones with this disease and by raising money for this amazing cause it will support further research and support for others.

I am running in a number of public events over the coming year to raise funds and awareness for this devastating illness that has removed the quality and enjoyment form the latter stages of my mother, Joyce Baker's life.

Im supporting this great cause in memory of my partner, who passed away April 27th 2024. Dave was only 55 when he died,. He worked for the memory clinic. He was nurse and for the last few years of his career he supported, diagnosed and advised families dealing with this awful disease. He was always very passionate about raising awareness and raising money for this charity. As he is no longer with us, I would like to continue to support the charity in his name. In memory of Dave Jones, always loved and never forgotten ❤️ xxx

My beautiful mum, who was my hero right to the end. Mums fight ended in January after a quick and devastating decline. Not knowing where to turn till I found AS, made everything else even harder to cope with. I am still grieving i walk with her I my heart &mind on the walk doing my little bit helps.

Three years ago, a stroke changed our lives forever, ultimately leading to a diagnosis of vascular dementia. It’s a cruel, heavy journey, but what makes it so much harder is the silence that now surrounds us.
Dementia reveals a heartbreaking truth: as the illness progresses, the circle shrinks. It is incredibly lonely to watch the world keep moving while the friends and family who used to be there slowly drift away, leaving him behind when he needs connection the most. He is still here and he still matters .
I will be running my first Ultra on 18th July to raise funds for research into this horrible disease to help others navigate their new normal.

Hi I'm Georgia and me and my sister Ava are taking on this trek for our loved grampy .In 2024 my grandad Dennis was diagnosed with vascular dementia and has been living with it since. Seeing the impact dementia can have on someone you love is something that stays with you. Like so many families, ours has been touched by dementia and this Trek is our way of giving something back in a way that will also help so many others.
All my life my grandparents have taken care of me, my sister, family, friends, even people they’ve never met before. They’ve always given whatever they’ve had to everyone and never asked for anything back, they deserve to be seen and shown appreciation to and this is just the start of what I will do.
Regardless of what dementia has taken from him no one can ever forget his bellowing laugh, his capability to make everyone smile, his cheekiness, his generosity and his cuddles. He’d never fail to light up a room when he walked in and has achieved so much throught his life it’s inspiring.
Memories with grampy will always be remembered and cherised, you will always be the wonderful Walter.

This walk will be for my Mammar. She was our dancing queen and family was her love and joy she lived in her own home independently until 1 year ago when her family had no choice but to look for a care home she had 6 children and 15 grandchildren and many great great grandchildren. She died sadly suddenly in June we are all still in shock that she’s gone she had been diagnosed with alzheimer’s a few years ago and up until - year ago remained in her home where we all supported her but watched her disappear bit by bit
Mammar we all love you and will never forget the memories the love and just your good sense of humour.

I am trekking for both of my beautiful parents. Dad was diagnosed with Alzheimer's a number of years ago. He fought hard before very sadly dementia took him 2 years ago. Tragically mum was diagnosed with Alzheimer's a year before dad passed away. Mum is still with us but is now reliving herself what she saw her husband go through. My sister and I have been determined to support our parents and have found the courage and support to do this from our parents. We will not let Alzheimer's define them and who they were are are.

I work for an Armed Forces charity and we have a few beneficiaries that have been diagnosed with Alzheimers. I have seen how this affects their loved ones and the huge impact it has on all their lives. I don't think a single person can say they don't know a family impacted by this awful illness. When I run the Brighton marathon I will be doing it in the name of my fellow veterans who have received this diagnosis.
