What is Trek26?

Trek26 is a series of treks in stunning locations across England and Wales. Trekkers have the option to trek either 26 or 13 miles. Thousands of people take on the challenge each year to raise money in support of people with dementia.

Why we need you!

Trekking a marathon or half-marathon is no mean feat so we love to give our trekkers as much support as possible on the day. This could be a cup of tea at one of our rest stops, a friendly word of encouragement on the route, or a triumphant cheer across the finish line. We can guarantee that it means the world to our trekkers.

This role will be perfect for you if you are:

• Friendly, welcoming and enjoy being part of a large event.
• Flexible and willing to take on a variety of different tasks as needed.
• A good communicator and are comfortable talking to people from all walks of life.

The route

Both routes start and finish in Thorpeness, a pretty coastal village on the Suffolk Coast. The route follows the coastal path past Sizewell and its imposing power station, with far-reaching views up towards Southwold. Walkers will pass through RSPB Minsmere with its amazing birdlife.

The 13 mile route will then return down South through nature reserves and heathlands teeming with wildlife. The 26 mile route will continue to Dunwich, home to an ancient monastery, and through the serene Dingle Marshes to quaint Walberswick. From there, the route will head back down South through the Westwood Marshes and Dunwich Forest back to Thorpeness.

Rest Stop Volunteers

As our trekkers make their way around the route, they refresh at our rest stops.

As a rest stop volunteer you will be:

  • Cheering trekkers into their rest stop
  • Chatting to trekkers and checking on their wellbeing
  • Making hot drinks/fill water bottles
  • Encourage trekkers to take snacks
  • Explaining the next section of the route and offering encouragement

*Most of our rest stops are in rural locations so we ask that rest stop volunteers have a car.
