How our corporate partners work with us

From raising vital funds and awareness to making real change within businesses for people with dementia, Alzheimer’s Society’s corporate partners are crucial in helping us achieve our vision of a world without dementia.

Alzheimer's Society proudly partners with companies from a range of sectors. Below are some examples of how we work together.

Arcadis and Alzheimer's Society

Arcadis and Alzheimer’s Society formed a charity partnership in January 2019.

Together, we set a target to raise £150,000 over two years that would go directly towards funding a research project at Cambridge University. The project explores the use of virtual reality in helping us understand the early development of Alzheimer’s disease as well as funding Dementia Advisers.

What we are achieving together

  • In 2019, Arcadis took part in a Trek, with 320 ‘Arcadians’ taking part, raising just over £85,000. In the future, they plan on encouraging even more colleagues to take part and smashing their previous fundraising!
  • When coronavirus lockdown began, Arcadis set up a virtual fundraising challenge for staff, ‘Get Active for Alzheimer’s’, with employees running, cycling, even jumping on space hoppers, all from the safety of their own homes. They raised a grand total of £15,000.
  • Arcadis is also working towards making 50 per cent of their workforce Dementia Friends by rolling out our Dementia Friends programme to staff.

A bright future ahead

Due to the ongoing challenges caused by coronavirus, Arcadis has committed to extending their partnership with us for a further year until the end of 2021. This will ensure we can both maximise the opportunities this partnership brings.

Debs Nutt, Business Director at Arcadis, said:

'Improving quality of life is our passion and one of the ways we carry this forward is by empowering our people to donate time and effort, in order to enhance our communities. Our partnership with the Alzheimer's Society is a prime example of this.'

“ We hope that our Alzheimer’s fundraising efforts will help in the search of a cure for this pervasive and debilitating disease. ”

McKesson and Alzheimer's Society

Mckesson lock- up Logo

McKesson UK, the parent company of Lloyds Pharmacy, launched a strategic charity partnership with Alzheimer’s Society and Alzheimer's Scotland in April 2015 with a vision to make better health possible for people living with dementia.

With over 1,400 pharmacies across the UK, McKesson UK’s expertise in healthcare, along with their presence within communities, means they are ideally positioned to raise awareness of the condition and improve access to information, advice and services for people living with dementia.

Every day, their pharmacy teams, nurses and drivers interact with thousands of people who are living with dementia, have a relative with the condition or are caring for someone with it.

The partnership's main strategic aims are to:

  • use our common voice to deliver change for McKesson’s colleagues, customers and communities through the delivery of Dementia Friends and Dementia Connect referrals
  • strengthen McKesson’s reputation as a healthcare provider by driving societal change and funding Dementia Advisers
  • leave a legacy for McKesson’s colleagues, customers and communities living with or affected by dementia.

What we are achieving together

During our five-year partnership with McKesson, more than 28,000 colleagues have become Dementia Friends, a Memory Tree has been installed in the company’s head office in Coventry and teams have raised over £680,000.

With this money, McKesson UK have been able to fund vital research projects, including a study looking at how early signs of dementia can be detected in speech patterns and a project investigating how to help people with dementia better manage diabetes.

Last year, Lloyds Pharmacy also became the first pharmacy company to launch the Dementia Connect referral service. Seven pharmacies in the North West of England piloted the initiative, allowing teams to refer patients directly to dementia support services via Alzheimer’s Society.

A bright future ahead

Moving forward, McKesson UK are looking at how they might rollout a Dementia Connect referral service to all their pharmacies. They are also allocating all fundraising money towards paying for Dementia Advisers who provide support and advice to thousands of people.

Toby Anderson, CEO at McKesson, said:

'Putting our patients first is a business priority and our partnership with Alzheimer’s Society fits entirely with our vision to make a difference to healthcare in the UK and improve patients’ lives. As a partner of the charity, we have learnt so much about the work they are doing, and how by increasing our own knowledge of dementia we can help patients and customers every day.'

“ The cause resonates powerfully with our colleagues and we are committed to playing our part in creating a more dementia friendly society. ”

One Stop AS logo

Alzheimer’s Society has been partnered with One Stop since January 2019.

To date they have raised over £160,000 for the Society. During this time, One Stop has embedded Dementia Friends into their e-Learning platform making over 7,500 Dementia Friends, and in 68 of their stores every team member is a Dementia Friend. One Stop is a member of the Sunflower Lanyard scheme for non-visible disabilities and are committed to supporting customers with dementia.

What we are achieving together

One Stop colleagues have supported the Society through our flagship campaigns, including Cupcake Day, Elf Day and Memory Walk. Team members have also taken on challenges including a very adventurous team who undertook an Arctic Circle trek raising over £10,000.

For Christmas 2019 they created ‘Eddie the Elf’ who was sold in stores with all profits donated to the Society and colleagues found their inner elf by fundraising for Elf Day.

A bright future ahead

One Stop is continuing to roll out Dementia Friends with one of their regions in the North West, leading the way to become the first area with 100 per cent of colleagues Dementia Friends.

Jack Taylor, Community Advisor at One Stop, said:

'It has been an amazing time setting up and seeing our partnership with Alzheimer’s Society blossom. From launching Dementia Friends to getting our first 1000 colleagues join the initiative was amazingly quick, and this drive to do more is continuing to grow and we build this partnership.

'This partnership has allowed us to roll out new ways of supporting charities and has been an amazing success bringing all aspects of our business together, maybe with a Cupcake Day or our growing love for Eddy the Elf this past year has been such fabulous fun and a very proud moment when we smashed all our fundraising records for one single charity partner in the first year of support.'

I am very proud and excited what we can do next to support. We are very very proud be a partner and supporter of Alzheimer’s Society.
