Controlled observation of people with dementia

This is one way of measuring the experience of people who have dementia. It takes place in laboratory conditions, and is often used to measure and improve digital user experience.

Pros and cons:

Useful for:

  • learning about the experience people with dementia, and their carers, have of using your website, phone app, or discussion forum, or products for use in health and care services.
  • It's especially used for digital user experience. It is especially used when seeking quantitative data ("The number of people who...", "How many clicks...", "How long it took to...").

Downsides and risks: it requires specialist training and, usually, laboratory conditions.

Cost:  May be expensive - it usually happens in a laboratory.
