The Queen’s Speech and social care

'We urge Boris Johnson and his new Government to fulfill his commitment to fix dementia care.'

Jeremy Hughes, Chief Executive Officer at Alzheimer’s Society, said,

'The state of dementia care is in crisis. The human cost is catastrophic, as people continue to lose their homes while helplessly watching their loved ones battle a disease without the help they so desperately need.'

'These families have been hearing since the summer that everyone feels they shouldn’t have to sell their homes to pay for care.  The Prime Minister committed to end the injustice when he met Barbara Windsor. The Secretary of State, Matt Hancock, said the same in response to the Daily Mail petition. Where’s the action? We need immediate investment now and a clear timeline for Government plans to overhaul social care funding or these statements are meaningless. The current proposal of an additional £1bn a year is not even enough to maintain the current threadbare system.
