The Office for National Statistics has published data showing that, for the week of the 23rd-29th January, there were 1,971 deaths due to COVID-19 in care homes, bringing the total to 26,680.

The Office for National statistics revealed that for the week ending 22 January, there were 1,817 deaths in care homes due to Covid.

Official figures later today are expected to confirm that the NHS has now offered the Covid-19 vaccine to residents at every eligible care home with older residents across England.

The latest figures from the Office for National Statistics revealed that a third of all deaths (35.95%) in care homes this week were due to Covid.

In a press conference today, the Health Secretary said that 78.7% of those aged 80 or older in the UK had received the first dose of the Covid vaccine.
