For researchers

Alzheimer's Society accepts applications for funding for research into the cause, cure, care or prevention of dementia. Funding is available for Project, Fellowship, PhD studentship and Dissemination grants. Invitations to work in partnership in research are also very welcome.

The research programme covers the full scope of dementia research, from laboratory-based investigative science and clinical research to studies into social interventions and care services for people with dementia.
Funding is available for research carried out at an academic institution or clinical department in the UK. Lead applicants must be based in the UK.

From July 2010, all applications are considered by a competitive process where applications are prioritised by the lay review panel as well as scientifically peer reviewed.

Alzheimer's Society expects to be an active partner in the research process, supporting the successful outcome and dissemination of research findings.

Application procedureA flow chart of the application process

All applications received will undergo review by the research volunteer network and scientific peer review.

The research volunteer network prioritise research to ensure we fund research that will benefit people with dementia and their carers. Scientific peer review ensures that applications funded are of high merit and quality, robustly designed and that the applicants are qualified to deliver the project as outlined.

Applicants of well reviewed and prioritised applications will be invited to interview by a mixed panel of scientists and network members. The final decision on funding is made by the grant panel.

Funding decisions will be made within six months of the application closing date.
