- Art Therapy (NPI) - Sefton
Imaginative session facilitated by a Bluecoat Artist with support from Alzheimers Society staff. Providing multi-sensory stimulation as well as social interaction. You dont have to be artistic to get creative and express yourself by using a variety of materials in a supportive environment where everyones contribution is respected and valued. At the end of the project we aim to hold an exhibition of the work produced in a friendly and informal way. - Carers Education Course (NPI) - Sefton
Are you concerned about your finances? Do you have access to good quality information? Do you worry about the future? Do you feel isolated and unable to cope with your new caring role? Dont panic, help is at hand. It is possible to live well with dementia. An exhilarating session for ten people with dementia and their carers facilitated by a Merseyside Dance Initiative Dance Artist with support from Alzheimers Society staff. Incorporating a variety of props, music and movement styles the sessions are certain to get the endorphins flowing and the body moving. With connection and enjoyment the common goal, experienced movers and novice shakers of all ages are welcome, just be sure to bring comfortable shoes and a sense of adventure. - Dementia Cafe - Birkdale

If you spend time with someone with dementia you need to support and encourage them to do whatever they can for themselves and to offer only as much help as they need. People with dementia need to continue carrying out as many of their previous activities as independently as possible in order to retain their skills. Our meaningful activities can lead to episodes of clarity and the re-expression of underlying skills encouraging preservation of their dignity, confidence and self-esteem and enhance their physical, social and emotional well-being. - Maintaining Skills Group (NPI) - Seaforth

When all other modes of communication fail to make any impact, music, with its stimulant qualities, tends to penetrate the person's mind and makes possible some amount of social, emotional or cognitive connection. The one hour session will include activities such as warm-ups with vowel sounds, rhythm, conducting, passing the lead and movement with use of tambourines and drums. A fun and informal session of well known songs. Music has been shown to create a positive caring environment in which people with dementia can experience a rich pattern of cognitive and emotional reactions. This can lead to episodes of clarity and the re-expression of underlying skills that caregiver singing and background music during dementia caring can, in most situations, influence caregivers and persons with severe dementia to vocally express positive emotions and moods and reduce patient aggressiveness. Singing in particular aids relaxation and stimulates more conscious breathing, and the physical stimulation may contribute to observed effects on behaviour and communication. - Singing for the Brain (NPI) - Southport
