Services offered
- Befriending
Befriending service provides personalised support for people with dementia and/or their carers whether in their own home or during outings & activities within the community. Offers companionship and emotional support rather than care or respite. Service does not provide personal care. - Carer Support Group
Peer support and information provision for Carers of people with dementia. - Craft therapy group
Held in the Sunderland building, the group concentrates on doing a range of crafts and activities. One to one sessions with staff are available. - Day care
The service aims to provide either a long or short term, flexible commitment to people at varying stages of their dementia, enabling them to maintain their independence and continue living at home. A variety of structured organised daily activities are provided, in consultation with clients taking into account individual needs and requests. Pursuits include table games, art work/crafts, physical exercise and music activities. - Dementia Support
The service is open to people with dementia and carers who are currently caring for a relative or friend as well as those who have been bereaved or whose relative or friend is in residential or nursing care. Carers and people with dementia can choose to receive individual support and/or can attend one of the regular groups on offer. - Greenside lunch club
Held in Anchor Housing property. The lunch club provides both the person with dementia and their carer an opportunity to socialise together and meet others in a supported and friendly atmosphere within the community. - Information
Information provision on all aspects of dementia; information and advice sheets and booklets and leaflets available - Memories Cafe
A regular informal meeting for people with dementia and their carers, friends and families, to meet each other and learn more about dementia with support from professionals. - Monday Activity Group
Weekly activity group run jointly with Age UK Sunderland to provide stimulating activities and social support for people with dementia, who have been referred through Alzheimer's Society Befriending service or Age UK Day Club service. The group supports its members to make choices about the type of activities they undertake and supports them to engage in these activities. - Oakfield Court lunch club
Held in Anchor Housing property. The lunch club provides both the person with dementia and their carer an opportunity to socialise together and meet others in a supported and friendly atmosphere within the community. - Penshaw lunch club
Held in Penshaw Community Centre providing both the person with dementia and their carer an opportunity to socialise together and meet others in a supported and friendly atmosphere within the community.
