All-Party Parliamentary Group on Dementia

Logo of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on DementiaAbout the group

Launched in June 2007, the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Dementia (APPG) is an informal parliamentary group made up of MPs and Peers with an interest in dementia.

Its purpose is to raise awareness of the condition amongst parliamentarians and to influence legislation and policy making with the aim of improving the lives of people with dementia and their carers.

The Group chaired by Jeremy Wright MP (Rugby and Kenilworth) aims to meet several times a year and use each meeting to focus on specific issues affecting people with dementia. Speakers from a range of backgrounds, such as people with dementia, carers, health and social care professionals and researchers are invited to each meeting to share their experience and expertise.

As well as holding meetings, the APPG intends to undertake a variety of parliamentary activities such as parliamentary briefings or inquiries.

The APPG is being run in partnership with Alzheimer's Society. The Society is providing administrative support and expert advice to the Group.
