What is The Restaurant That Makes Mistakes?

The Restaurant That Makes Mistakes is a Channel 4 series about the UK’s first ever restaurant staffed by people living with dementia.

Alzheimer's Society is a proud partner of this ground-breaking experiment, in which 14 volunteers all living with some form of dementia are about to make viewers think again. Over 42,000 people with dementia are under the age of 65, yet only 18 per cent of them have continued to work after diagnosis.

The Restaurant That Makes Mistakes shows how with the right support, and small adjustments, many people with dementia can stay independent and continue to contribute in the workplace.

Work and dementia: The facts

If a person living with dementia wants to continue working, it is their choice of whether to do so and how long for.

Our Employment guide has more advice on the rights of people with dementia in the workplace. Here are three key facts:

  • People living with dementia must not be discriminated against for their disability during an application for a job
  • Employers have to make reasonable adjustments to help someone with a disability cope with their work in the workplace
  • An employer should not dismiss a person on disciplinary grounds if the effect on their work is because of a disability.
