A beautiful book full of appetising food and nutrition ideas for people with dementia

From the June 2015 issue of our magazine, Janet Baylis, Manager of the Society's Dementia Knowledge Centre, reviews a book that encourages good food and nutrition for people with dementia.

Don't give me eggs that bounce: 118 cracking recipes for people with Alzheimer's by Peter Morgan-Jones and others

Appetising food and good nutrition are central to living well with dementia. This cookery book, produced by an Australian chef, provides many ideas for simple, tasty meals that encourage people with dementia to eat and enjoy food.

This beautifully produced book features bright colours and mouth-watering photographs, making it a pleasure to look through and pick up ideas.

The book's nutritional information will help to maintain a balanced diet, with an emphasis on high energy foods and protein.

The authors recommend five to seven smaller meals a day and explain how to prepare appealing soft diet and pureed foods as well as thickened drinks for people with swallowing difficulties.

It includes lots of tips about mealtimes, including using contrasting colours to make food stand out from the plate and introducing finger foods when cutlery becomes a struggle.
