Collect for the Forget me not Appeal

Thank you to everyone who generously donated their time to collect for the Alzheimer's Society Forget me not Appeal. Over 1,100 volunteers took part in 2024, raising awareness and vital funds for research, support and campaigning.

We are so grateful to Morrisons who provided us the chance to offer collections in over 450 of their stores across England, Wales and Scotland.

These collections will be taking place again next year, and we hope you will join us to make it an even bigger success.

FAQs

It’s really exciting to think of the difference you’ve made at the Forget me not Appeal collections in 2024. Please bear with us whilst we finalise the income totals from both Morrisons and N Ireland. We will be in touch as soon as we can announce this total!

Thank you so much for reaching out to tell us about your experience. We have sent a survey out to volunteers to find out about your experience. This is the best place for comments to be collated.

If you need to add anything else, please contact us on [email protected].

All we ask is you are friendly, enthusiastic and ready to join in! There are no specific skills required and we will be there to help every step of the way.

Due to the nature of the role handling donations, we can only accept over 18s as volunteers.

The Forget me not Appeal is our annual, flagship appeal. Its purpose is to create a special moment each year, when everyone stands in solidarity to honour and remember people affected by dementia.

At collections, you will give people the opportunity to donate and receive a Forget me not Appeal pin badge, which is the emotional centrepiece of the campaign. Wearing these pin badges shows everyone how vital it is that dementia receives the attention it deserves. It also raises crucial funds to provide practical and emotional support for people who are dealing with dementia right now.

You will receive updates from the team in the lead up to your collection which will provide you with everything you need to know before the day, so keep an eye on your inbox and double-check your junk-mail folder.

These updates will include information about where to go, briefings for your collection, and what to expect on the day.

We may also contact you by phone or text message in case we need to update you with vital information.

If you are collecting at a Morrisons store, you will be sent a volunteer pack including an Alzheimer’s Society t-shirt directly to your home address before the collection takes place. This will include a briefing on everything you need to know about your role for the day, and what to do on arrival at your chosen Morrisons store.

Volunteers in Northern Ireland will be contacted by your Community Fundraiser separately about your volunteer materials, so please look out for these.

If you are part of a team, or want to bring a friend to collect with you, we would love for you to come along. Sign up to volunteer together by choosing the same slot on the form when you each sign up.

Unfortunately you will be unable to bring any young children or dependents with you to collect.

Please let us know of any needs on the sign up form you think may affect your volunteering experience. We will be in touch with you to follow up if we need more information to support you.

Every location is different, and because we won’t be at every store, we can’t guarantee to meet every need. If you would like to clarify in advance, please email [email protected].

There are various collection locations available in Northern Ireland. Please email [email protected] to find one near to you.

Alzheimer Scotland are looking after volunteers taking part at Scottish stores, and will benefit from the donations collected in Scotland. To sign up to one of these collections, please contact Alzheimer Scotland on [email protected]

If you volunteered this year and have received a fine at a Morrisons car park, please contact us on [email protected].

Many Morrisons car parks have limits on free parking, and your generous decision to volunteer may mean you would go above the allowed time slot.

To avoid this causing an issue, make sure when you sign in at the Morrisons customer kiosk that you provide your registration plate. Please ensure the staff member who welcomes you enters this into their system to avoid a fine.

Why not travel by public transport instead to reduce the environmental impact?

We understand sometimes things crop up which mean you can no longer volunteer at the event. Please use the contact details below for any volunteering questions or cancellations.
