Yorkshire Three Peaks is the classic UK trekking challenge. Conquer these summits in one day surrounded by people who are trekking for loved ones, and raise money so together we can find a cure.

You'll start and finish the trek at our event hub in Horton in Ribblesdale. The route takes you up and down the mountains of Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough.

Highlights along the way include the Grade II listed Ribblehead Viaduct (built in the 1870s), the village of Chapel-le-Dale and views of Morecambe Bay.

How and when do I pay for Yorkshire Three Peaks?

You are committed to raising a minimum sponsorship of £300 per person*. This is so we can cover your trip costs, and still have plenty of money left to help us get closer to a world without dementia.

If you need some inspiration, just visit our fundraising zone.

You must have started fundraising and have sent part of this amount by eight weeks prior to the event to secure your place. The rest of your sponsorship should ideally be sent before the challenge and within six weeks of your return.

*Please note that this does not include your registration fee. 


Is the event COVID-19 safe?

Yes. We are planning all our events to include social distancing measures and meet government guidelines. We ran a number of trekking events safely in Autumn 2020 and will apply the same measures to our future events. 

We will monitor the situation closely and make alterations as guidelines change. All the information you need to keep you safe will be sent to you before the event.

How do I claim my trekking top and when will I receive it?

Everyone who smashes their fundraising target a month before the trek will receive a free Alzheimer's Society breathable trekking top to wear on the big day!

You don't need to get in touch with us to claim your top. As long as you have hit your target on your JustGiving page or paid in cash donations, we'll send out your top automatically.

If you are fundraising in a team, please let us know by creating a team when you sign up so we can make sure you all receive your tops.

Can I fundraise in a team?

Of course! Please let us know when you sign up by creating a team. Your team members can then join you by clicking on the ‘find’ button and typing in either the team captain’s name or your team name.

Your fundraising target is still £300 per person but you're welcome to combine your targets into one team total.

How fit do I need to be?

The more training you do beforehand, the more you'll enjoy it! The route is designed to be challenging but is achievable for most people.

Don't worry though! We'll send you an expert training plan to help you prepare for the trek.

What will the terrain be like?

We trek mainly on gravel paths and grassy tracks. As we're trekking three of the highest peaks in Yorkshire expect steep sections of continuous uphill and downhill trekking on rocky terrain. Some sections may be muddy if it has rained so wearing suitable footwear is essential.

How will I find my way along the route?

The route will be well-marked with brightly coloured marker arrows and there will be extra marshals at any sections that are less straightforward. On the day, you will be given contact details for the support team in case you do lose your way.

How long will it take?

This event is not a race; everyone should be able to walk at a comfortable pace. In order for the event to be managed safely, there will be a cut-off time.

The three peaks should take approximately 9-10 hours but can take some walkers up to 12 hours.

How old are the other people on the trek?

Our groups vary in age from 18 to 70 years old. Young people over the age of 16 can join if accompanied by a parent or guardian. Participants who are 65 years or over will need to obtain a medical certificate signed by their GP, as do all participants who have any sort of medical condition.

What if the weather is bad?

We carry on! Do make sure you check the kit list and come prepared for all types of weather.

What will I need to carry?

You will need to be able to carry all essential kit required for the challenge e.g waterproofs, layers, water, sun cream, snacks. Check the full kit list to be sure of everything you will need.

Make sure you have trained with your backpack, carrying everything you need, so that you are used to trekking with your pack at full weight. 

What are the toilet facilities?

There will be facilities at the event hub (where you start and finish) and most planned rest stops along the route.

Are there rest stops along the way?

There will be manned rest stops along the route – usually one in the morning, one in the afternoon, plus a lunch stop. We’ll be on hand to provide help and plenty of encouragement and there will be first aid support, as well as toilets.

What will I be eating?

Breakfast, lunch and lots of snacks are provided as well as water and tea and coffee at the start/finish and lunch stop.

Can I park my car?

Yes there is a car park on site, at a cost of £4 per car. This can be paid on the day, and does not need to be booked.

Can a friend who isn’t signed up walk with me?

No, we’re afraid not, everyone taking part needs to be fully registered and fundraising to beat dementia.

Can I bring my dog?

No. We cannot be responsible for their welfare and landowners often ask us not to bring dogs onto their lands, which we must respect.  

Can I run?

No, we’re afraid not.

What if the event can't go ahead due to COVID-19?

If the event needs to be cancelled you will be offered the option to move to another trek or a refund of your registration fee.
