Early career researchers

We are dedicated to ensuring that our researchers are supported throughout their careers.

Our Dementia Research Leaders programme

We provide funding and development opportunities for people from biomedical, clinical and social science backgrounds from the start of a career in research through to establishing themselves as independent investigators.

The Dementia Research Leaders

We fund researchers who have the skill, drive and potential to be the leading voices and experts in dementia research in the future.

The programme covers people funded by Alzheimer’s Society who are named Undergraduate Research Bursary or PhD students and our junior, senior and clinical fellows.

The programme also supports postdoctoral researchers supported by our Project or Programme grants.

NIHR Dementia Researcher

Alzheimer's Society is supporting this platform  from  the National Institute for Health and Research (NIHR) for early career researchers. It includes career advice, events, podcasts and much more. Join the discussion, socialise and collaborate with other researchers in your field.

Alzheimer's Society offers a mentoring programme to our funded fellows, to help them obtain a permanent academic position.
The Dementia Research Leaders awards recognise the contribution that early and mid-career researchers make to dementia research and people affected by dementia.
Alzheimer's Society has an outstanding record of investing in researchers. Of the biomedical research fellows that we have funded over the last 20 years, 70% have remained active in dementia research and 60% now hold tenured positions in universities and research institutes.
