Building a movement

Personal Choice works with a wide range of partners across health & social care, voluntary and community groups.

We are formal partners with Think Local Act Personal (TLAP), Coalition for Collaborative Care (C4CC) and NHS England (IPC). We have also created links with groups such as People Hub, Helen Sanderson Associates, In Control, Community Catalysts, Shared Lives and many online dementia bloggers.

We will create momentum around the personalisation agenda, ensuring dementia is not ignored. By working together we can achieve more and make the cultural and systemic changes needed to personalise the dementia landscape.

As approved voluntary sector partners for NHS England on IPC (Integrated Personal Commissioning) we're working to ensure that people see their health and social care needs met through a coordinated system by the pooling of health and social care budgets. About our Personal Choice Network

We also have a Personal Choice network, linking professionals interested in personalisation and making personal budgets dementia friendly. The Network provides support and advice for local authorities to help them make changes set out in the dementia friendly personal budgets charter, as well as wider support to implement personalisation for people with dementia.

In 2017 and 2018 we will be running regional roadshows in England, Wales and Northern Ireland with an opportunity for people to get involved. We're also creating an advisory group of people with dementia and carers to help shape our work, as well as inviting people with lived experience of dementia to join an editorial team for the Personal Choice magazine supplement.

Building a person-centred future

We're committed to a person-centred approach. We treat every person with dementia as an individual, rather than focusing on their illness or on abilities they may have lost. We consider the whole person, taking into account each individual's unique qualities, abilities, interests, preferences and needs.

The Personal Choice Programme works with teams and services across the Society to help ensure we remain at the forefront of personalised dementia support.

We’ve worked with Side by Side to embed person-centred principles into the service and empower people with dementia to stay active in their local community, by partnering with a volunteer and doing the things they love. We also run workshops for staff on how to use person-centred tools and provide resources to ensure the service is focussed on individual needs and aspirations.

Our workshops and resources are available to all staff and volunteers and we continue to work with a range of services to inform, support and encourage their efforts to personalise the support offered by the Society. This includes Dementia Advisors, Dementia Support Workers, Befriending Managers, our Engagement and Participation team, Live Well With Dementia Programme Services Marketing and Organisational Development teams.

We also provide support and advice to Policy, Campaigns and the Operations and Senior Leadership Teams on topics relating to personalisation, helping the Society become a leading person-centred organisation.
