5. Building a person-centred future
We're committed to a person-centred approach. We treat every person with dementia as an individual, rather than focusing on their illness or on abilities they may have lost. We consider the whole person, taking into account each individual's unique qualities, abilities, interests, preferences and needs.
The Personal Choice Programme works with teams and services across the Society to help ensure we remain at the forefront of personalised dementia support.
We’ve worked with Side by Side to embed person-centred principles into the service and empower people with dementia to stay active in their local community, by partnering with a volunteer and doing the things they love. We also run workshops for staff on how to use person-centred tools and provide resources to ensure the service is focussed on individual needs and aspirations.
Our workshops and resources are available to all staff and volunteers and we continue to work with a range of services to inform, support and encourage their efforts to personalise the support offered by the Society. This includes Dementia Advisors, Dementia Support Workers, Befriending Managers, our Engagement and Participation team, Live Well With Dementia Programme Services Marketing and Organisational Development teams.
We also provide support and advice to Policy, Campaigns and the Operations and Senior Leadership Teams on topics relating to personalisation, helping the Society become a leading person-centred organisation.
