Down's syndrome

Advances in medical and social care have led to a significant increase in the life expectancy of people with learning disabilities. People with Down's syndrome are at particular risk of developing dementia as they grow older. Understanding the effect of ageing on people with learning disabilities - including the risk of developing dementia - has, therefore, become increasingly important.

For more information on the issues concerning people with a learning disability who develop dementia see Factsheet 430, Learning disabilities and dementia.
