Drinking

As dementia progresses, drinking can become difficult for some people. There are several reasons why this may happen, for example, they may not recognise the drink in front of them, or they may find it hard to swallow. If a person does not drink enough, it can have an effect on their health and on some of the symptoms of their dementia.

For information about what may cause difficulties with drinking and tips on how to help, see Factsheet 511, Eating and drinking
