Volunteer: Support Services, Dementia Cafe, Foyle

How does this role make a difference?

The support services volunteer role is essential in assisting staff at at this Dementia Cafe. 

Dementia CafĂ©'s provide people with dementia and their carers with an opportunity to meet in a social setting, gain access to information, advice and support and get involved in various activities. Volunteers are needed to help set up the venue, meet and greet those attending and help facilitate the activities on the day. Help is also needed with refreshments occasionally.

How much time will I need to give?

This Dementia Cafe is currently in development so please contact the Volunteering Officer for further information on the frequency of this service. Dementia Cafe's can range from once weekly to monthly support. Must be available during day time hours.

What support do I get and what experience is required?

Alzheimer's Society is committed to supporting volunteers in whichever role is carried out.  For this role, you will be supported by the local dementia suport worker.  No special qualifications or experience are needed but good communication skills are important as well as an ability to show empathy and support.
