Volunteer: Day Centre Supporter, near Thirsk
Where is it you want me to volunteer?
The Alzheimer's Society new Day Centre opens at the start of October 2012 at the Old School House, Sutton under Whitestonecliffe, Thirsk, YO7 2PR. We are looking for people who can give a couple of hours on either Tuesdays or Thursdays.
What will I be doing?
You will be supporting staff and encouraging people with dementia to participate in day activities, ensuring that group participants feel comfortable and included. This role involves:
- Listening and talking to people with dementia and their carers in a sensitive and supportive way
- Assisting with the serving of refreshments
- Joining in with social activities such as board games, arts and crafts, that benefit the individual or group
How much time do you expect me to commit?
2-3 hours per week
