Coleen's wedding dress is top lot at online fundraising auction!

Published 2 February 2007

TV presenter Coleen Nolan is auctioning off the wedding dress from her marriage to entertainer Shane Ritchie to raise money for the Alzheimer's Society.

Fans of the ITV Loose Woman star can put in a bid for the bridal gown at internet auction site eBay. Requests for the lot have already seen the price of the gown rocket, with a flood of bids after going up for sale. The full-length dress, sized 14 or 16, is pictured on the website in a photo from Coleen's wedding day in 1990.

Explaining her decision to sell the dress, Coleen says:

'It is a beautiful dress and it is still in its presentation box - I don't want it so someone else might as well have it. I thought I would sell it to raise money for the Alzheimer's Society, which is a cause very dear to my heart. My Mum has Alzheimer's and I know just how devastating this disease is. Alzheimer's and any form of dementia not only affects the person who is diagnosed but everyone in the family.'

Coleen's online donation is the latest show of commitment she has made to the charity, after signing up to join a fundraising cycle ride. Coleen and her fiancé Ray Fensome will cover 400km along the banks of the river Nile in Egypt later this month to raise money for people with Alzheimer's disease and their carers.

Coleen and Ray will be part of a team of fundraisers, all cycling up to a gruelling 112km a day over 5 days. Their sponsored bike ride along the Nile will take them past pyramids, across deserts and through the Valley of the Kings.

Coleen says:

'I urge everyone who can still manage it - to get on your bike and get cycling for the Alzheimer's Society. If we can do it - so can you!'

The Alzheimer's Society runs a number of overseas treks and cycle rides to locations including Peru, Chine and Egypt. For more information please see the Alzheimer's Society website or call 0870 417 0192.
