National Council for Palliative Care published guide to help people with dementia in pain or distress

Published 5 December 2012

A new guide has been launched for carers and those who work with people with dementia which provides advice on how to help with pain and distress in people with the condition.

'How would I know' offers a range of top tips to help carers and health and care professionals identify whether someone with dementia may be in pain or distress, advice on what may be causing this and a range of possible solutions.

Alzheimer's Society comment:

'Unfortunately pain can often go unrecognised in people with dementia and evidence shows that it often goes untreated. There are 800,000 people living with the condition in the UK, and each of them deserves to live well, in the best comfort possible and without pain. This useful guide highlights key ways to identify and address signs of distress and pain in a person with dementia, helping carers to look after people with the condition.'
