Russell Grant stars at virtual birthday bash
Published 30 March 2007
Talking Point, the Alzheimer's Society's message board and online support group, will be celebrating its fourth anniversary with Britain's top astrologer Russell Grant on Tuesday 3 April at 3pm.
Russell, whose grandmother had Alzheimer's disease, will join people with dementia and carers for what promises to be the biggest online party the website has ever seen.
Russell will chat on line to members of the forum, who will have the chance ask questions and share their own experiences with the star. The Alzheimer's Society is encouraging anyone who is affected by dementia to log on for a virtual group hug and celebratory cup of tea.
Russell Grant says,
'As a former carer myself, I know how devastating dementia can be and understand how valuable it is to always have somewhere you can turn. Talking Point provides this support to everyone who is affected by dementia twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. It will be a privilege for me to join members for this important occasion.'
Bruce Bovill, who cares for his wife Jan and is a moderator of Talking Point, says,
'We're absolutely delighted that Russell Grant will be joining us for the birthday party. It's such an encouragement that our members are receiving such special recognition. Caring for someone with dementia can be a lonely and isolating experience and its not always easy to access support when you need it most. It's during these times that Talking Point can become a lifeline.'
Talking Point provides a virtual platform for people with dementia and their carers to share their experiences, seek advice and offer guidance. Since it's beginning in 2002, over 3,500 people have registered on the site and there have been over 60,000 posts. Click here to visit Talking Point.
