Gavin and Stacey actress visits Bromley couple for Comic Relief

The film follows 81 year old Ron Lambert, a full-time carer and his wife Gladys, 82, who has vascular dementia.

Ruth and the film crew stayed overnight with the couple to show Ron's daily routine as a carer. It also followed them to White Gables - the Bromley office of Alzheimer's Society - where Gladys is looked after for the day while Ron gets some respite.

Ron, from Hayes, says,

'They were all very nice people, Ruth Jones was lovely and very sympathetic as well and the Alzheimer's Society people at White Gables are marvellous.'

Comic Relief has been funding a number of projects at Alzheimer's Society since 1990, including a recent £5,000 grant to Alzheimer's Society, Bromley; anda three-year grant in May 2010 of £120,000 to develop a campaigners' network in England. The funding has enabled more people with dementia and their carers to campaign locally to improve the quality of care and support for all those affected by the condition.

Maggie Owolade, Alzheimer's Society's Area Manager for London, says,

'People with dementia need our support to help understand their condition and plan for the future. There are currently nowhere near enough services in London to meet the needs of all those affected. Alzheimer's Society relies on donations to continue our vital work. We are very grateful to Comic Relief for this donation and their continued support, allowing us to lead the fight against dementia.'
