Alzheimer’s Society welcomes new appointments to CQC

Published 18 May 2010

Alzheimer's Society comment on the Care Quality Commission's appointment of two new advisors specialising in adult social care.

The Care Quality Commission has announced the appointment of two new advisors specialising in adult social care. Bill Hodson will take on the role of national advisor on adult social care. Barbara Laing will help the commission in the run-up to the registration of adult social care providers under the Health and Social Care Act 2008.

Alzheimer's Society comment:

'Alzheimer's Society welcomes the appointment of the new Care Quality Commission advisors. It is particularly pleasing that they recognise the need to draw on expertise of stakeholders and to form partnerships between social and health care services.'

'The vast majority of people with dementia will need health and social care at some stage and they account for at least two thirds of care home residents. It is therefore essential that their needs are addressed and their opinions heard by the commission. We must all work together to ensure people with dementia have the best possible quality of life.'
