Jo Brand and Ruth Langsford run the Hydro Active Challenge for charity

Published 4 September 2007

Top comedian Jo Brand will be on her marks to raise money for the Alzheimer's Society at the Hydro Active Women's Challenge on Sunday 16 September at London's Hyde Park.

Jo will join ITV's This Morning presenter, Ruth Langsford, and over 200 women running across the country to provide vital support to people affected by dementia.

Jo is going the extra mile by giving everyone who signs up to any Alzheimer's Society running event by 30 September 2007 the chance to win 2 tickets to see her at the opening night of Jasper Carrott's Rocks with Laughter Show and Hydro Active medals by signed by herself and Olympic athlete Paula Radcliffe.

Jo Brand, an ambassador for the Alzheimer's Society, says,

'People laugh when I say I'm running 5K alongside the likes of Paula Radcliffe, I don't know why it amuses them!

But seriously, dementia is no joke. In a former life I was a psychiatric nurse and saw first hand the devastating impact it can have. It robs people of their lives. This is why I've signed up to the Hydro Active Women's Challenge three years in a row to raise money for the Alzheimer's Society.'

TV presenter Ruth Langsford says,

'I'd love to be running, but I'm doing the run with my mum, so we'll be walking instead! My father Dennis has Alzheimer's. Mum and I want to do something positive to help him and other families who are coping with caring for someone with dementia. It's a cruel disease that affects everyone in a family, but together and through the Alzheimer's Society we can make a difference to the quality of care and the range of services available for people with dementia and their carers.'

To arrange an interview with Jo or Ruth on the day please contact Sarah Fenlon in the Alzheimer's Society press office.
