Dean Andrews ditches the Quattro to run for Alzheimer’s Society
Published 7 April 2010
Ashes to Ashes star Dean Andrews is swapping his eighties wheels for trainers having signed up for the Bupa Great Yorkshire Run on 5 September to raise funds for Alzheimer’s Society.
A passionate Rotherham United supporter and a keen runner, Yorkshireman Dean's big acting break came playing DCI Gene Hunt's polo neck wearing sidekick in Life on Mars, which was set in the 1970s.
'I'm delighted that Bupa has chosen Alzheimer's Society as its nominated charity for a second year and I'm honoured to be running for them. One in three of us will die with dementia, so it is something which will touch all our lives at some time.'
Dean will be running in the Bupa Great Yorkshire Run as part of the Alzheimer's Society team which includes Outnumbered actor Hugh Dennis, EastEnder's Nasty Nick Cotton, John Altman, Dick and Dom's Richard McCourt, newsreader Nina Hossain and belly dancer Sophie Mei.
Dean added,
'I'm looking forward to running in my home county and for such a good cause. Dementia research and care is woefully under resourced and Alzheimer's Society relies on donations to carry out its work. The money raised from the Bupa Great Yorkshire Run will provide help and support for people with dementia and their carers, and fund research to find a cure in the future.'
