Food, fun and parties

Published 12 February 2003

The Alzheimer's Society's book of activities is a bumper recipe book of practical and inexpensive ideas which will give inspiration to anyone who cares for people with dementia.

Whether in a care home, a day care service or at home; this book has something for everyone.

'The book is divided into separate sections covering everyday things to do at home, making the most of your local community, music and movement, food, reminiscence, gardening, games, arts and crafts and activities in the later stages of dementia,'

said Helen Walton, product manager for the Society's Quality Care Team.

'The use of activities can significantly improve the quality of people's lives. This book looks at current thinking on activities, how to set up a programme and care planning,'

she continued.

'Suggested activities are covered in a clear and concise manner and the book can be used to dip in and out of or as a complete read.'

The book is written and edited by Sally Knocker, NAPA's (National Association of providers of activities for older people) Growing with Age National Project Manager, and includes many ideas from Alzheimer's Society branches and Activity Organisers round the country.

The A4 160 page book is priced at £24.99.
