Alzheimer’s Society comment on Bafta nomination for dementia documentary

Published 18 March 2008

It is fantastic that Malcolm & Barbara: Love’s Farewell has been nominated for a Bafta Television award in the category of best single documentary.

It is another important step toward bringing dementia out of the shadows and leading the fight against this devastating condition.

The decision by Malcolm and Barbara Pointon to allow a camera to follow them from his diagnosis with Alzheimer's disease through to his final days was an extremely brave one. It is a decision which shone an important spotlight on Alzheimer's disease and dementia and the reality of a condition affecting 700,0000 people in the UK and millions more carers.
