Alzheimer's Society comment on State of Social Care in England 2006-2007, by the social care regulator Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI)
Published 29 January 2008
This report confirms the awful truth that our broken care system is abandoning vulnerable people. This is a modern day scandal.
What sort of society do we live in where people with dementia are increasingly losing vital lifelines such as day care and home care services and those forced to pay privately are struggling with poor quality of life?
Without significant reform, this rising pressure on an already overstrained care system will continue to shut people out in the cold. Everyone deserves to have their basic care needs met, regardless of their ability to pay. The government urgently needs to address these issues in the National Dementia Strategy and the Green Paper on Social Care.
