Corrie star to launch Alzheimer's Society anniversary rose at Chelsea

Published 21 May 2004

Coronation Street star Sally Lindsay will launch a special rose for the Alzheimer's Society at the Chelsea Flower Show on Monday 24 May.

The rose - aptly named Reminiscence - will be launched to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Alzheimer's Society. Sales of the rose will benefit the Society and help it to raise awareness and continue its work to help people with dementia and their carers.

Sally Lindsay said:

'I am so glad to be able to support such an important charity. Every Reminiscence rose bought will help the Alzheimer's Society to continue its vital work. Although a lot has been achieved since the Society was established 25 years ago, there is still much to be done to improve the care and support for people with dementia and their carers.'

Sally is involved with the Alzheimer's Society because of her Gran, who had Alzheimer's disease and died 12 years ago.

'I'm passionate about doing everything I can for people with dementia and their carers,' she says.

Neil Hunt, Alzheimer's Society chief executive, said:

'This rose is a splendid addition to any garden and a great way to support the Society in its anniversary year. The Society is grateful to Sally for launching Reminiscence for us and for her ongoing support. '

Over 750,000 people in the UK have dementia and more than half of these have Alzheimer's disease. We're always getting closer to a cure for Alzheimer's, but to continue the search we need more funds for research.'

The Alzheimer's Society will receive £1.50 for each rose bought and over £8.50 for orders of three or more roses.
