Alzheimer's Society comment on NHS Future Forum report

Published 14 June 2011

The NHS Future Forum, which has carried out a two-month consultation on NHS reform, today reported its findings at a King’s Fund press conference.

The report recommended better integration between health and social care, patient involvement and local decision making and accountability.

Alzheimer's Society comment:

'The Future Forum report has delivered an exciting vision, which must now become a reality. Local accountability and transparency has the potential to transform dementia care, as does joined up working between health and social services. But the details of how this will work must now be clarified.

It's a very positive step that people everywhere should have their rightful say in local health services. We must now ensure that people with dementia and carers are not just hard-wired into the decision-making system, but that they have the power to permanently reconnect the cables.'
