Film maker showcases debut work for Alzheimer's Society

Published 9 June 2011

A budding film maker will be showcasing his debut feature film in a bid to raise money for Alzheimer's Society.

Despite having no formal training in the art of film making, aspiring film director Barrie Willacott got behind the camera to shoot his film, titled Contract.

Barrie, a train conductor with Arriva Trains is now hoping he can raise funds for Alzheimer's Society when he premieres his film at the Earlswood Social Club on Sunday 10 July 2011 (7pm).

'I have always been interested in film and have always wanted to write screenplays, scripts or short films'

Barrie was inspired to help raise money for Alzheimer's Society after his wife Liz's father was diagnosed with the illness.

'I managed to get some friends onboard to help me as actors and did the whole thing with just a small camera, a laptop and no formal training.'

The film is about a loyal lower league footballer who falls on hard times and ends up embroiled in the shady, criminal underworld.  It was filmed at locations such as Hereford United Football Club's Edgar Street Stadium.

On the night Barrie is hoping to auction a 15ft x 9ft Welsh Flag which was donated to him.  He is trying to get as many Welsh personalities to sign the flag in the hope this will make an outstanding amount of money.  So far he has had it signed by Roy Noble, Christian Malcolm, Jason Mohamed, Gareth Bale and Sam Warburton, with many others lined up to sign it.

Barrie said

'Alzheimers is something that as touched our family so it would be nice to raise a much as possible for the cause.'
