Thanks to everyone involved in the BIG Collection - it was a huge success

Published 31 May 2011

Big collection

On Friday 27 and Saturday 28 May, thousands of volunteers donated their valuable time to collect money at Tesco stores all across the UK to help build a better future for people with dementia.

Celebrity supporters Ruth Langsford, Lyn Paul and Gordon Banks all helped to raise money and draw in the collectors at their local stores and Peter Crouch even made a surprise visit to the Weybridge store in Surrey.

But it wasn't just celebrities that pulled in the pounds. The new Mayor of Belfast and the Mayor of Peterborough joined in the fun, media volunteers Christopher and Veronica Devas collected with Jeremy Hughes, Alzheimer's Society CEO in Shaftesbury and volunteers all over could be seen sporting bright blue wigs.Big collection volunteers

The money raised through the collection and the partnership will fund new research, dementia support workers to help those living with the condition, and a Dementia Community Roadshow launching in June, which will visit Tesco stores all over the UK, offering advice and support for anyone interested in finding out more about dementia.

The total amount raised will be announced in June 2011.

A BIG thank you to everyone involved - we really appreciate all the time and effort you put into making the collection a success!
